ITOH Scrumdiddleyumptious

(Question)

Have just bought the above. Want to know if I should repot into a 5 gal now or wait until the fall.
I am in Montreal now and this will be my first Itoh (had several herbaceous before with success) in Mississauga

Welcome to Toronto Master Gardeners.

Intersectional Peonies (Paeonia CVS), also known as Itoh Peonies, (pronounced ‘ee-toe’!) are hybrids created by crossing a tree peony and an herbaceous peony.

It is never a good idea to keep purchased potted plants in their container very long. Professional nurseries water their potted plants pretty much everyday which is a dangerous practice for a homeowner. Plants do not like to be kept like that so if you are unable to plant it properly into the ground, then transplanting into a 5 gallon pot will give it a better chance of not getting root bound.

Please see this article on Itoh Peonies which references this advice and a short description can be found here from The American Peony Society.
